Finding A Puppy

Are Lucas terrier puppies rare and endangered in the US and Canada?

Yes they are. There are currently just over 100 Lucas terriers in the US and 600 world wide.  Each true Lucas terrier comes with a five generation pedigree either sealed and notarized by the US LTCA Club or watermarked by the UK Club. Also each US Lucas terrier is assigned a unique letter and number combination at birth.  Careful records of all of our dogs are kept in a secure location.  Please do not be fooled by someone offering you a 'bargain' Lucas terrier or saying it does not matter that he or she is not a member of the LTCA club.  IT DOES MATTER!  If you purchase from someone else other than an LTCA club member in good-standing you buy at your own risk.

How long will I have to wait for a puppy?

Hopefully not very long!  Club members who are committed to breeding happy, healthy, well-socialized Lucas terrier puppies are doing everything in our power to minimize your wait.  Some times you can get lucky and find a puppy right away.  Other times you have to wait a while.  But they are definitely worth waiting for!

Do adults ever come up for adoption or rescue?

Sometimes they do. Puppies are placed very carefully at birth and the people that are lucky enough to be chosen for a Lucas think of them as family members.  But sometimes circumstances change.  If you would like to be considered for an adult, check the the box below that says you are mainly interested in an adult. We will do our best to help you!

Who buys Lucas Terriers?

Individuals and families who appreciate a great little go-anywhere, do-anything, sweet, smart, healthy, companion dog that doesn't shed, drool or smell too doggie-ish.  In other words, a perfect little companion!

How much do they cost?

Individual breeders price their own litters. In the recent past, litters have ranged from $2,000  to $3,500.

What colors to they come in?

Lucas terriers come in lots of different colors!  In the US, the most common colors are:

  1. Shades of tan - ranging from the palest champagne to the richest red
  2. Black and tan - sometimes called 'saddle and tans' or 'grizzle and tans'
  3. Black/Bue - either solid or with patches of white
  4. White - with or with out patches of color

If I live outside the US or Canada - will you ship a Lucas to me? Or let me come and collect it?

We are a rare breed fighting for survival.  In the past, all of our pups bred here stayed here.  However, if you live in a country were you have access to healthy small Sealyhams and Norfolks, and are sincere about helping to save the Lucas terrier breed, then yes, we will help you. For too long the Lucas has been concentrated in the UK and the US exclusively.  It is our club's vision to help share this delightful breed with the world and move it off the endangered list. Working together, we can do it!

Do club members have an edge over non-club members in being selected for a puppy?

Yes, most definitely!  Club members are automatically given preference over non-club members in placing pups.  A person seriously interested in being considered for a Lucas terrier pup should automatically join the Club (it is fast and easy and you can do it from the 'Joining/ Renewing' tab above. Also, please fill out the puppy questionnaire below.
